PICV Valve Function

The FlowCon Pressure Independent Control Valve (PIC Valve or PICV Valve) combines 3 functions in one valve: modulating control, dynamic flow limitation and differential pressure control. The Pressure Independent Control Valve is widely used in heating and cooling applications due to its accuracy and energy saving potential. The FlowCon PICV Valve Function offers 100% control authority for all flow conditions, that is with a programmable choice of either linear or equal percent control characteristic. Flow balancing of the system is automatic and independent of pressure change within the system.

The PICV Valve range includes two PIC Valve families, which are both tested to BSRIA PICV Valve standards. The Green range, which offers flexibility and serviceability through the removable PICV Valve insert up to the Green.2, and the SM range covering sizes up to 250mm.

Green PIC Valves include an innovative diaphragm-based self-adjustment feature, enabling the PIC Valve to continuously self-balance, thereby achieving precisely the flow rate required by each terminal unit, independent of pressure fluctuations in the system. In addition, each insert can be adjusted and set to an accurate maximum flow limit to each circuit without stroke limitation. As long as the pressure differential across the valve is within the operating range, the valve diaphragm is regulating nonstop ensuring constant differential pressure across the regulating element (100% authority).

SM PIC Valves keep a constant differential pressure across the internal controlling orifice of the valve. The SM valve setting will limit flow to design flow at full load. The SM actuator will accurately and with 100% authority limit the flow requirement at any partial load. The dynamic flow characteristics keep the SM PIC Valve in constant authority and automatically balanced.

The efficiency of a PICV installation with the Green or SM ranges in use can be even further improved by accurately maintaining differential temperature across a branch or terminal unit to maximise the energy saving by adding the FlowCon FIT Intelligent Interface and App to the PICV installation.

The Green and SM Pressure Independent Control Valve ranges are easy to select, set, commission and service, due their flexibility, user-friendly setting, and low minimum ΔP. The repeatability of FlowCon PICV Valves is one of the best in the market due to low hysteresis.
