Smart Energy Valves are specially designed to optimise the coil performance in hydronic systems for energy saving. An energy control valve reduces the flow while maintaining the design temperature differential, resulting in energy savings and increased occupant comfort. Our range of energy products, valves in particular, covers mechanical as well as electric Smart Valve options from the world’s most credible Smart Valve suppliers FlowCon and Belimo. Energy products & valve evolution

For years hydronic systems were controlled by actuated valves that controlled the flow to terminal units. As pressure changed, flow changed.

In 1960, the first pressure independent control valve was launched in the US to maintain design flow regardless of pressure changes in the system, preventing hot and cold spots, common in unbalanced hydronic systems. The HVAC industry has since realised that controlling ΔT is the most efficient way to control heat transfer. That has led to the design of pressure dependent energy products, valves that open or close based on the ΔT requirements, in 2010 by Belimo.

While energy savings can be achieved, ΔT control ONLY may compromise the occupant comfort. Therefore, energy products, a valve that is pressure AND temperature independent, were introduced in 2012 by Belimo (electronic) and in 2018 by FlowCon (mechanical).

Connected and remotely controlled, these valves are also known as “smart valves” or “intelligent valves”. The most advanced smart valve even allows for glycol monitoring.
