Brunel Building

Canalside Walk | London | 2019

An architecturally striking development with 244,000 ft² of innovative work space in Paddington, London W2 by Derwent London. Completed in the first half of 2019, the new office building is 16 storeys high with 2 basement levels and two large roof terraces. The building received a BREEAM “excellent” rating.

Main contractor Laing O’Rourke involved FloControl early 2017 to supply prefabricated valve sets for over 600 exposed EVO270 fan coil units from Ability Projects, as well as PICVs, ABVs, DRVs and actuated 4-Port valves for Air Handling Units, Plate Heat Exchangers and Air Conditioning Units. With sustainability and the environment high on the agenda, the HVAC installation was to be flushed closed loop.

FloControl delivered the pre-fabricated valve sets, fitted with blank caps for easy system flushing, to Ability according to a complex call off schedule. The PICV and ABV Inserts were supplied directly to site, pre-set and identified to each FCU, and installed after flushing was completed, instantly balancing the system.

James Brazier, Mechanical Project Manager for Laing O’Rourke, commented that the compact size of the valve set, as well as the removable PICV cartridge, which allowed for a simplified flushing process, drove the decision to work with FloControl on this project. All parts were delivered to a call off schedule, fully labelled to assist the offsite installation of valve sets at the FCU manufacturers works.
